Do Your Kids Get A Lot Of Cavities Because They Resist Brushing Their Teeth?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Enid, OK

My daughter has several cavities. She has gotten fillings before. The dentist said that she needs to brush and floss. They also said that milk has sugar in it and she needs to drink more water instead of milk. I feel guilty because I forget to remind her to brush her teeth and we don’t keep up with flossing at all.

A MyAutismTeam Member

Aziel hates brushing his teeth. It’s always a struggle. We haven’t been able to get his electric toothbrush yet to try that. We are looking into the one that projects water out of it so it takes care… read more

What Kind Of Meds Does Ur Lil Ones Take?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Spencerville, OH

Davis currently isn't taking any, but I'd like some info on how u went about getting them and personal experiences. His tantrums and constant yelling are getting worse as he's aging. He has good days and bad days but never in between. He gets to the point where I'm concerned that he'll really injure himself or someone around him. I feel like if he just slowed down a little it would help and maybe he'll und
erstand what's really going on.

If you have a ppo and not an hmo, you should not have to have a referral for a pyschiatrist. I think though you probably would need a referral for a nuerologist though to get in. I hope you find sone… read more

Melatonin Yay Or Nay?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
New Jersey City, NJ

What are everyone’s thoughts about Melatonin? I have a lot of confusion about it myself. Some say no way it’s terrible for kids, others say it’s safe and helps everyone. My doctor didn’t quit answer when I asked he just asked why I stopped giving it to my son. Overall I just want to know if anyone actually has an answer. Not to use everyday but in moderation.

A MyAutismTeam Member

So, melatonin affects people differently. For our son, we have to give him melatonin. We have tried without, tried changing hours of naps and bedtimes, tried other remedies, tried no nap at all… read more

What Causes Autism? How Can It Be Treated?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Enid, OK

I’ve heard that too much screen time causes autism. And that you can improve autism by spending more time with your child.

A MyAutismTeam Member

Screen time does NOT cause autism. Autism starts in the womb, caused by nothing other than the fact that we are all created to be who we are for a reason 😊 The world needs neurodiversity! Screen time… read more

Lawrenceville, GA

As a parent who will soon have a working young adult child starting soon and I don't want him to lose his SSI if any of you parents or anyone who understands that my question is for example like do you work two days or just the weekend from what-to-what hours. I definitely continue with his therapy.

A MyAutismTeam Member

The Elephant In The Room

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Nikki27

Not a question but an observation. Autism has become normalized and that’s bad for the children affected and those who are their caregivers. It’s wrong for society to “accept” a continually growing unexplained mental/behavioral health crisis and not demand answers. parents who have children with autism are asked to be stoic and fatalistic but that’s unfair. There should be more research into the cause of autism and a search for cures. I know that’s difficult when dealing with neurological… read more

Autism isn't much of priority when you look at the National Institute of Health funding. It was #130 on the funding categories. They spent $308 million dollars in 2022. We spent $3.2 billion on… read more

Why Is It Hard To Get Others To Believe Your Child Most Likely Has Autism? (Wait Listed For A Screening In Our State)

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Illinois City, IL

I work in early childhood education and while we can’t diagnose we can screen and refer. I did our screenings on my daughter and with the results consulted for a screening and have been placed on a wait list. Unfortunately in our area the wait list is almost 2 years long. I am struggling to get support from those around us as it’s hard for them to believe she would have autism. My parents especially, I know it’s contributing to outdated views. Any advice?

A MyAutismTeam Member

Unfortunately there is a waitlist everywhere around here. It’s something we struggle with in our job as we often have to refer for further screenings. I know she has autism, I just find it hard… read more

For Those Living In New Brunswick, Is There Any Help That We Can Get At Home?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Moncton, NB

With 3 special need children and hubby on the spectrum too (just not diagnosed yet) I am at my braking point… I Can’t accomplish anything :( I always have to intervene to divide the crowd. I can’t make phone calls without them screaming bloody murder. I can’t even pass in front of a mirror and look at my reflection as they automatically ask ‘Are you leaving???’ with a tone of panic in their voice. Me and my husband can’t EVER talk, even at night when they are ‘supposed’ to sleep .. Our basement… read more

Do you feel like you’re doing the right thing? Like you know what to do? Like you’ve got this?
