A Couple Of Things You Shouldn't Do!

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Drumheller

Putting your kid in ABA that includes any kind of punishment system is harmful.
Forcing them to eat foods that are sensory nightmares for them.
Trying to 'cure' them, there is no cure for autism, if someone tells that they have/know a cure they're either a scamer or VERY poorly informed.

My 2 year old is so picky. At the beginning he would eat only cereal dry and PB&J. I took a more old school approach to get him to eat more. I give breakfast and lunch and a small snack after nap… read more

How Do You Cope With Rage Meltdowns? Just Glad The Neighbours Didn’t Call The Cops Yet :(

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Moncton, NB

I know that he grew a lot lately so his medication probably need to be adjusted. + the hormones at 13 must throw him off as well as he is so sensitive to changes! But how do you deal with those rage meltdowns? When he was younger I was able to manage but now what do I do? He is starting to be quite strong!! What are the options? We are at a point where we wonder if we shouldn’t ‘divide’ the crowd and live separated since they constantly trigger one another :( But I’m afraid that by separating… read more

Parenting Friends Of Neurotypical Kiddos Not Understand Neurodivergent Kiddos

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
New Jersey City, NJ

I have a group of friends who have been such great mom friends. But ever since Johns Diagnosis they seem to not be as helpful. They don’t quite understand the demands of therapy and ABA and the schedule juggling. They try to help but often I find them more annoying then helpful. They even try to talk to me about their Neurotypical kiddos problems at school and I try to help but also find myself getting annoyed at there problems as well. Does anyone else feel this way. Is it part of the process… read more

Thank you this makes me feel less alone that I feel this way. My friends are great moms but I sometimes wish their biggest struggles are only half of what I have to deal with on a day to day.

Liquid Hydroxine Manufacturing Issues?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
TX

I am having a hard time getting Liam's liquid hydroxine refilled. He won't swallow pills. Walmart said they are not doing business w that drug manufacturer any more due to pricing...... I called 2 other pharmacies and it is on back order at 2 places for the whole pharmacy with an indefinite wait time. The best I could do was get a partial fill with an indefinite wait time for the rest..... I am not really clear what the actual issue is as each pharmacy says something different. It is an as… read more

Parents Who Want To Build Cohousing For Their Adult Autistic Kids?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Winthrop, WA

I've seen some recently built cohousing communities focused on neurodivergent residents. Does anyone here know of cohousing (or similar) groups forming in Washington or Oregon for adult autistic folks? Any parents here want to form a group to build a community where are adult children can live with the support and community they need?

A MyAutismTeam Member

There was going to be a Farming Community like that (AACORN) but some legal situation shut them down.
