My son is obsessed with giving us directions telling or indicating where we should turn, etc. If we deviate he screams and has a tantrum. He’s been doing this since he was 2 1/2 years old. The funny part about it is that he is always correct which I found astonishing that this non-verbal toddler who has developmental delay would know where I wanted to go and exactly how to get there!

I am so sorry you had to go through that. It must have been very scary. To be honest, what that individual did was wrong.
My daughter is also obsessed with car rides and she goes at least twice a day, everyday for the past 12 years. My husband drives her and has never experienced what you did.
I would maybe take that situation as a one off and if it happens again, not that you should have to, you could maybe create a sign for your car window that indicates you have a Child on board that is on a sensory drive… Again, you should not have to do that but maybe it will help if this starts to happen more often. Good luck and enjoy your car rides😊 they bring your child joy.

May I inquire as to why this is an issue for neighbours?

I would put an Autism sticker on my window so can STFUP and feel stupid. In reality, you don’t need to explain anything to these people. You are trying your best to meet their needs. They’re not the ones dealing with the consequences or situation.

I did create a post about it in our community neighborhood page to spread awareness. I was astounished by the amount of kindness and support I received. I completely agree 100%. What he did was completely inappropriate and could have definitely be handled in a different manner. I found his behavior to be very triggering and insensitive.
