A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Bronx, NY

I recently started applying for opwdd. It is a long and confusing process. We have just obtained provisional eligibility. Our social worker said the next step is doing a front door meeting which I am scheduled for. She said the next step after that is finding a Medicaid Service Coordinator in New York. Anyone have any suggestions for a good one. I do see Sinergia has this service. Has anyone used Sinergia for medicaid Service coordination and give there experience. I have attended… read more

Hello, Im in the process of applying for OPWDD as well and I live in NY. Is a long process I was told the same at 1st to find a coordinator but now I've been explain is not really necessary all the time. Once your child is approve I was told is much easy to find the places myself than having a medicaid coordinator since they hard to find, the ones that are available have to many clients and last the waiting list is ridiculous. I was lucky I called ARC and they took my case for the opwdd but it almost didnt happen since they said they have so many cases not enough staff. I do recommend you to call them, I live in Westchester County so I contacted the Hawthorne office however, they dont have coordinators;(. What you could do so you dont have to wait is find the place or service of your interest and ask them if they take the provitional opwdd service and go down the list from there if not you will be waiting months for one;(

We use the Anderson Centerfor Autism in Hyde Park, but that's too far for you.

Can anyone recommend a good epileptologist/neurologist for a young adult with autism (not pediatric). I am willing to drive anywhere in Orange County, Inland Empire, or Los Angeles. Thank you.
