I waited a long time past when the doctor recommended to put my son on meds. Til he was 8, even though they asked me at 5. They were actually pretty helpful though and did help tremendously with headbanging and self injurious behaviors. It is not one size fits all and is a personal decision but you can always discontinue it if it's not right for your kid.....
