Has Anyone Used Risperidone For

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to this site and am grateful that you all are out there. Our 5-yr old girl is ADHD w/high-functioning Asperger's and has recently started Intuniv, and it's helped especially with her fine motor skills. She's still a handful at school with her non-compliance of not wanting to transition from task to task and sometimes when she's re-directed she's still insistent on doing her own thing. She tends to go off in her own imaginary world and has her own scenario going and… read more

My son was on clonodine for a few months and we saw no differences on him. He started the rIsperidone about a month ago and he has calmed down quite a bit. It helps enough but does not put him in a zombie state. I would suggest to give it a try. If it doesn't work, there are other things to try. Good luck :)

my 13 year old son started risperidone about 5 months ago and is a whole new child. His teachers, our family and friends and even he has noticed the change for the better. Considering what we went through to get to that point, i can honestly say this med changed our lives for the better.

My daughter has the same ADHD w/PDD-NOS and has been on it since January and we have seen a huge improvement for the most part. She has some bad days still, but the daily outbursts are gone. I have seen no side affects so we are grateful our doctor gave it to her.

I understand your frustration about your son hurting those around him. My daughter bit her kindergarten teacher the other day and it wasn't the first time. She did apologize to her. We understand that Risperidone is supposed to make her more grounded and blunt certain behaviors like aggression and irritability. Our fingers are crossed. She's only been on it a week and her dr. said it takes some more time before we'll see the full potential of the meds in our daughter. Can I recommend a book? You may already know about it "The Autism Book" by Dr. Robert Sears. He's opened our eyes to Risperidone and our apprehension about using it changed once we read the book. We're looking forward to positive results. We're starting with some OT at her school and we'll see how it goes. Hope your son will do OK w/his new dog and with your new baby. Thanks for your input on my post.
