Do You Let Your Child Have Their Device Without Asking? Do You Take It Away?
My daughter gets her iPad as a reward or for long car trips. She will take it without asking. I like how you dealt with that few people realize no child is fully potty trained until puberty and the flip side how damaging it can be for their adult life you didn't make it about the accident you made it about the iPad and you showed she is loved inspite of the mess you had to clean up.You Go Mom!
Im sure she felt bad, but she has to learn boundaries and rules. I do the same thing no matter if a child is "normal" or if they are autistic. If you allow them to keep it, it will only get worse as time goes on, they will continue pushing those boundaries and seeing just what they can get away with. And the longer this behaviour is allowed the bigger the meltdown will be when you do take something away from them later on.
Aww, poor kiddo! I bet she felt awful that that happened after she got distracted. I am very easily distracted...my bodily functions always let me know when it's time to go, or to eat, but I can see that happening with someone who may not notice them that acutely. I think you handled it well, so that she knows to ask next time :)
