A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son hates waiting for anything but now he waited as food was hot. I hope to teach him skill of waiting

Waiting is really hard… You have to leave by example try to have a very calm energy around yourself at all times they’ll get that eventually. If you’re doing ABA, you could have your provider work with social stories and help model waiting for different things like even playing board games and taking turns, helps model waiting. There is no way to do it and it’s gonna be frustrating but when you find what sort of clicks you can keep going and consistency is really the key. I’m terrible at consistency but I do notice it is the thing that works

I'm an adult and hate waiting, but know how to be patient
My daughter hates waiting and at almost 12 is getting much better at waiting.

Mine as well...is not easy trying to convince him to wait .. that's part of our challenges but I know with time he will outgrown that 😊😊

For my Lela it depends on what the wait is for. If at a amusement park the waiting no matter how long isn’t ever a issue. But sitting at the dentist or at her ped and that wait is definitely time gated for sure😂
