Is ABA Therapy Helpful? We Are Just In The Process Of Getting Our Son ABA Therapy
ABA therapy is critical, especially with early intervention. It is meant to teach behavior not only for the kiddo, but for the family too. We've included our babysitters as well so they know how to respond to behaviors.
Some places will ask you to leave your child there and not observe or be involved in the process. Some places are crazy strict with attendance considering they work with kids that frequently have sleep issues. Some places will ask you to sign a contract to pay for more than what insurance provides. That said, it can be really helpful for a lot of kids. Especially with things like potty training. I would also suggest avoiding any places that try to run you off and don't let you observe.
That is very good and honest advice, thank you!
That is reassuring to hear! Thanks!
ABA was helpful for my son. He started at age 2.5 (early intervention), then when he was placed in the local school district for preschool at age 3, he had ABA after school in our home for 1 hour M-F. He stopped ABA services at age 6 because the IEP team and I agreed he no longer needed it. For the most part, it helped him focus more and complete tasks. He still stims, but that doesn’t affect his ability to learn.
Good luck! Remember if you feel that ABA isn’t helping your child, you can stop it or switch to another provider.
