Anybody Else Doing Life Skills,
laundry, shopping taking out etc How is it going? My nonverbal does but not independently it is with extra help
Yes, my son helps do some of the chores and helps me with cooking. He practices taking public transportation, shopping and ordering food from restaurants during the school day. He enjoys it.
My 20 year old high functioning son has a set of chores he is required to do every week. Because he also gets social security, he pays his sister to do other things (clean the bathroom, laundry) that he doesn't like or want to do. He cooks for himself and I weekly grocery shop, but I do take him shopping for bathroom and other essentials and he pays for that himself. He still relies on my help in doing so, and I just have to find the strength to one day just let him figure it out on his own.
Yes we go grocery shopping. I'm showing my son how to fold his laundry and put it away.
Yes, we’re in the Progress of doing Life Skills.
Well, it’s a Double Jeopardy in my world. Both my son and I Non-Verbal and Sever Autistic. I don’t know how how to do laundry or go Grocery Shopping independently. I need full assistance with basic life skills and social skills. I’m lucky enough to be able to dress myself. To be honest shoes end up on the wrong foot, Shirts are backwards. I don’t know how to button up shirts. So I would say Life Skills are difficult. Plus my son and myself are in Diapers. So Life Skills for me is at step one. That’s why I’m in Internse Occupational Therapy.
