Anyone Who Has A Child With Autism And Adhd, How Do You Handle Lack Of Impulse Control?
This is one aspect of our son that has been very hard to handle. Any advice?
People with ADHD become less impulsive with a stimulant. Prescription stimulants have this effect. To a lesser degree, sugar, caffeine, and nicotine do this too. Does anyone else have an adult friend who is forgetful, disorganized, and drinks a bunch of caffeine ? They might be undiagnosed ADHD self medicating π
Depending on citations, approximately 5-10% of children have ADHD. So, it's reasonable to assume 5-10% of Autistics have ADHD too. Prescriptions like stimulants can help ADHD. If the medication becomes less effective, discuss a change in dose, or change in med. Metabolism changes over time and doses can require adjustment up or down. Speak to your Doc.
Same here!!! The impulse is what keeps me on a constant edge!! I donβt know what great advice to give because no one told me to be on the lookout for wandering, too!
I've heard of black coffee being used. Definitely different. I may try it at some point
I should say we just give him one cup of coffee every morning.
