How Does Everyone Feel About Sending Their Kiddos Back To School?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I worry a lot because a lot of our kiddos have less than perfect immune systems. Have any of your kids gotten covid? Did they handle it okay?

I'm still worried about the virus, but he does rather well with masking up. We are looking at possibly doing 3 days in person and two days virtually for the upcoming school year.

I have no worries as my daughter is in elementary school where the number of deaths is extremely low for her age group. Remote learning is a joke and there were plenty of studies showing it was safe to put young kis back in classrooms. The usual flu kills more kids every year but we never close the entire education system for that.

Our kids never got Covid 19 as far as we know and my wife is an RN who has treated Covid 19 patients. Funny how many people are more afraid of the vaccines than the virus. I wish I could get the shot but I guess I'm in the same risk group as a 16-year-old but I'm 56.

My son had Covid back in April of last year very mild symptoms the same for me. As far as my son going back to in person I was going to send him for the summer but I found out that they will be in a different school all together. So I will just wait until Sept to send him back.

My kids haven't gotten it....that I know of of course. I've sent them back to in person pretty much as soon as they were allowed. I do take the virus 100% seriously, it wasn't an easy decision to say the least, BUT I saw a very drastic decline in their mental health while they were home...my daughter's anxiety amplified tremendously, my son became so emotional all the time because be was bored and I was all out of ideas in my trick box...I just couldn't justify keeping them home because I already was taking them out to the parks, we live in and apartment so everything is a high touch zone...in my brain they could get it anywhere so I decided to send them back. Neither has gotten that sick at all, and I keep them home at the first symptom to monitor them especially my son who won't wear a mask so I follow all the protocols, and even temperature check them before getting on the bus.

Repeating what's been said before it's really a personal decision on what's best for you and your family...do I live in fear everyday that they are gonna get sick, absolutely, but I did what I thought was best and that's all any of us can do really.

@A MyAutismTeam Member As a parent you follow your instincts. Nothing wrong with being cautious either. Everyone here has shared valid reasons on their perspectives towards a hard topic everyone has, is, or will face when it comes to their kids and education and going back in person. The two biggest themes to this all is getting infected and Mental Health. In the end only you can make the best decision for you and your family. I guess what I am trying to say is, follow your gut. And remember that what ever you decide is not a bad choice. :) Best of luck.
