Do Any Of Your Kids Stem By Watching The Opening Credits To A Tv Show And Rewinding Them Over And Over Again?
My son hums/sings the theme song and if I don’t take the controller away I’m pretty sure he would do it all day. I have read that as long as the stemming isn’t hurting them there is no harm. We limit screen time on most days but I feel like if this isn’t hurtful why not let him do it sometimes. He has a speech delay but is verbal. Evaluated as autistic 2. 4.5. I was just wondering if anyone else goes though the same thing. He also has Hyperlexia and could read self taught by he age of 2.
Our son has always loved the credits at the end. He is 11 now and has done this since he was about 3 or maybe younger. I think that it was the music and the rolling of the credits that he liked. My son also jumps up and down constantly while watching the same 30 seconds of a movie over and over again. Right now he likes to watch horror movies because he likes the facial expression. At first I was not allowing him to watch them but then I realized he would turn the volume all the way down and only watch the parts where the people would have a very expressive facial experssion.
My 14 year-old son does the same thing. He watches both VHS tapes and DVD's and plays the opening credits to lots of different movies over and over.
My four year old has a fire tablet and does that all the time. I gave up trying to limit screen time for my own sanity. He doesn't always want to use it or watch TV anyway. This morning is the first time he has really used his computer in four or five days.
My son will not only do this (for the credits after a show) but he will pull up a blank Word document and type out the credits to whatever show he has watched! We have files and files of "credits". There are many times we cannot leave the movie theater until he has seen ALL the credits! I have seen him in the living room hopping up and down, squealing with delight looking at the credits!
Do you think it is soothing? My son seems to have sensory issues but also a sensory seeker in some ways.
