What Schools Would You Recommend In The Raleigh, NC For A High Functioning ASD Child Going Into Kindergarten?
We are considering a move to the Raleigh, NC area this summer. My 4 1/2 year old son was diagnosed with ASD (high function) this past December. We are currently in a really good school district in NJ and are feeling nervous about being able to find a comparable school. He currently has an IEP. Would love feedback, recommendation for schools in the Raleigh, NC.
It is assigned once you are living there! I am glad to have helped some. I like to look at all the options 😌.
Thanks so much Judith. I haven't really been able to find any info online about special needs services. Also, isn't the IEP team only assigned once you're actually living there?
I’m a Psychologist in Cary, North Carolina (Suburb of Raleigh). I’ve been in practice here for 15 years and Wake County schools are quite good. You might want to think about living in the Cary or Apex communities. Just check before you buy a home if you assigned school is capped. That means even if you live in the area to go to this school there are no seats. We also have year round and some charter school options. Welcome to NC.
I will recommend asking the IEP team if they have any suggestions, and look online. The next step is to call the schools you are most intrested in from the list the IEP team might give you and the list from the internet. Make a list of questions to ask based on the schools websites, and request visits.
