Yeast Overgrowth... S.O.S!
I am about 95% sure my son is suffering from yeast overgrowth? i want to get him tested and treated for it. iI have private health insurance and his primary care physician. Can my peditrian run a stool test and start the process to treat the yeast? I cant afford to see a DAN doctor and he is getting worse? Please much needed advice to point me in the right direction
Hi all thanks for the advice...I took him into see a different peditriction from his primary,(primary diagnosed him 3days ago with scalp ringworm and opted to treat with topical antifungal). I"m feeling more is to the story based on his symtoms, increase in sterotypical behavior, and his Speech, OT, ABA therapist, and my husband agree he is definetly not "himself". My Gut has always been he has had yeast overgrowth even from his Autism diagnosis. All the symtoms seem to be there.
The pediatrician I saw yesterday was very helpful and through. He feels that there is some validity to my concerns considering how many ear infections and stomach infections he was treated for as an infant and toddler. He was pumped with antibiotics oral, injections, you name it!
He recomends treating the "ringworm" with oral anti-fungal but not until after I see a dermatologist and a GI doctor, to address the ezema and the yeast over growth. He scratches all over including his private.Dermatologist he will see next week GI same.
I will keep you all posted. Yesterday was a good day not so stimmy. Today I will suprise him with a trip to the water slide park :)
Hi facetious, you won't know untill you ask. Just take him there with the stool all prepared in a small tight lid plastic container " give him your son symptoms and say that you want him tested for yeast overgrowth. Now he might ask you how to you know it's yeast just say you check online and it appeared to be that. Just to be sure please check him. If it doesn't work the first time make an another appointment and ask again, do it until you wear him out. His behavioral doctor could probably test him for you just try don't take the first "no" for an answer. Good luck Mom you're a warrior fight
The stool testing can give you specific information on the yeast strain (some are resistant to nystatin and even diflucan). We had better luck with diflucan. It would hard to convince a paediatrician to run either organic acid or stool test though but worth a try. Can try natural remedies such as MCT oil, grapefruit seed extract, etc.
The general pediatrician can run an Organic Acids Test inexpensively and can write a prescription for Nystatin or Diflucan. I asked our biomed dr. about the comprehensive stool test and he said that he didn't think it was a good use of our limited budget, so we skipped it. Nystatin has a very good safety profile and we decided to just go ahead and try a course of it in combination with high-dose probiotics and an anti-yeast diet.
