Daughter Being Prescribed Fluconazole For Yeast Overgrowth.

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Akron, OH

My daughter is starting fluconazole in 2 days. She has been on Methyl b12 injections and it is causing her to have yeast overgrowth. Her DAN! Doctor wants to start her on a month of fluconazole but wants her to go have blood work done at 3 weeks of taking them. Is this something normal? I am so worried that this medicine damages the body. What are they going to be checking? Is this medicine generally safe? Sorry for all the questions. I know I should have asked her doctor when I was… read more

That is the generic name for Diflucan. My little one has been taking Nystatin per her biomed dr. (she started the mB12 shots in October and the Nystatin in January). I asked her dr. about the safety of Nystatin and he said that it was the safest of the anti-yeast medications. So you might want to ask your dr. why he chose the Diflucan over the Nystatin. FWIW, we have seen good results with the Nystatin. We had been working on potty-training for over 6 months with only limited success. Within a week of starting the Nystatin, she was in underpants full-time during the day and going #2 on the potty at least once per day.

She is on the liquid diflucan. She is taking it for only one month because she just started methyl b12 injections and they caused yeast overgrowth. So her Dan! Doctor wants to bring the yeast down. She is going to start the actual antifungal protocol in the next few months.

Are you taking the nystatin in a liquid form? We found nystatin to be counter productive, my son reacted to the liq suspension. For many years he was on and off diflucan. In fact when he had an external fungal growth it took a good deal more than was typical to help rid it. He gennerally had less behavior issues when on duflucan. Though almost always we saw an initial upset while his body attacked they east over growth. Maybe there was more o it, he does suffer autistic colitis (now their debating crohns). But the pathology is still identical to what we see w the more specific autistic colitis both dr wakefield and dr Krigsman have note.
