Hi, my son is two years old and has poor eye contact. Is anybody knows how to improve eye contact? Thank you!

My sons speech therapy and my doing it at home has vastly improved his eye contact. He's 22 months. For him it was all about getting down to his level, learning at what distance he is comfortable with me at and then holding his toys, ect. Up to my face and trying to get him to look at me in the eyes before I reward him with what he wanted and vocal praise. He loves it now and his progress has moved him past that. For some kids though, more than others, it can be truly painful to make eye contact.

Also try GFCF diet, helped lot of kids with ASD.

We also used the nose trick. My undiagnosed aspie husband taught her. It does make every one around them feel more comfortable, but should be followed up as quickly as possible with speech therapy to read facial expressions, because otherwise people expect they are understanding information they haven't even received.

There is an app for the iPad that flashes numbers up in the eyes of a dinosaur or something like that. To get the answer right you have to be looking in their eyes. It is an easy way to start.

If that doesn't work, you might try to make a game out of it. Show him pictures, and give him an M&M if he can touch both eyes at once.
