What is the best GPS for a 5 yr old boy? My son tends to wander off also, also likes to run away. Concern that he will run off at school especially in the morning that they wait on the office with door opened. The schol it that secured. I warned tha teachers about this.

IONKIDS has a watch and tag to place on the child and a system that warns you when they are 1 to 700+ fet away and actually tracks the direction in which they are headed

Looks like you are in the L.A. area. I checked online and you have Project Lifesaver available through your Sherriff's Office. Initial cost is $300 which can be broken down if you can't afford it all at once, and then it's $10 a month for the Sherriff's Office people to come out and change the battery. It has the best track record of any gps used that I am aware of, about a 2 mile range with mobile tracking devices. You can get info here: www.projectlifesaver.org , but you can only get it through law enforcement. Hope this info helps.

I work for a school and the kids that ride a SPED bus are met by paras and escorted to the classroom. If you drive him to school you will probably have to wait with him until class starts and then walk him to class.

The school will not provide a one on one para, most likely. It's been phased out of most budgets. They might, if the child harms other children, and if the child has an IEP. But bear in mind if he has only a 504 plan, it's unfunded.

There are various GPS options, as well as options that coordinate with the local police department. The police ones cost less, but your local dept has to have the program in place. If your child is willing to carry a device there are lots of possibilities. A cell phone or the like is the simplest. If your son resents being tracked, you might opt for a tracking bracelet (they make some that look like a watch and are all but impossible to remove without your knowing.) They are expensive, but they look nearly foolproof. Some of the devices also have two way talk or phone service.
