Are There Items You Wish You Could Find/buy At A Store?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been kicking around the idea of opening a store that specializes in items for children with ASD and other special needs. I'm thinking things like balance beams, spin boards, fidget toys, books about special needs kiddos, the super soft underwear with covered elastic, therapy brushes - the list of things could go on and on.
So my question is - are there items that you wish you could buy at a local store instead of online?

Members enthusiastically supported the idea of opening a physical store for children with autism and special needs, with many expressing frustration that no such store currently exists despite high demand. Several members suggested specific products they struggle to find locally, including weighted blankets, oral sensory tools, toys with moving lights, fine motor skill toys, communication aids, chew sticks, sound mufflers, and foam gym mats or climbing equipment. A recurring theme was the desire for more than just a retail space, with strong support for creating a community hub that could host parent support groups, connect families with mentors and therapists, and serve as a welcoming place to get advice and discover resources.

We have a store in Denver, Beyond the Blackboard, that specializes in creative toys and books, and they have a large section for ASD kids. However, we have found a lot of success with toys involving moving light, and they carry none of these. Discussion with other parents told us this would be a big win if you carried even just a few such items.

Great idea! Look for toys that help with fine motor skills. Just google "fine motor skills toys". Best of luck!

We go through a lot of the chew sticks and I hate when I reach in the package and pull out the last one without realizing I was that low.
