I am wondering if I should apply for SSI, for our son? We live in NY does anyone know the process or any information on who we may contact and if my son is eligible?

Hi, I was wondering if you got approved for SSI for your son. My daughter has the diagnosis also and I have applied for SSI and still waiting to hear from them. I also had her evaluated upon the request of her pediatrician at CPSE. She was diagnose with autism. It's funny AS I AM WRITING THIS RIGHT NOW...THEY'RE SHOWING THE AUTISM COMMERCIAL.
Back to the point. After being evaluated by CPSE, she was place into a school. The wait time to hear from Social Security is excruciatingly painful. I guess my question to you is, have you heard back from them yet?

Thanks.
PS. I also live in New York and have added you to my team😊

@LeaF & @A MyAutismTeam Member, Its worth a try, because we have so many unexpected expenses from travel back and forth to the Sensory gym and supplies needed for his ABA sessions, I feel bad if there is a supply needed and I am unable to get it right away, I just want to help my son in any way possible.

be prepared to possibly be denied. Even though you are more than eligible for benefits with an autism diagnosis, you may get denied. I was, and I know several others who were as well. I've been told to re-apply and appeal. Sometimes I think it's just the desk that you come across first as to whether or not you get approved. It's a frustrating process, but be prepared to fight, and don't give up. Lots of Luck!

Fatima I'm sorry I have been a bad boy and not replied! My son did get approval. Since then, we have reapplied for a higher amount due to his expenses for therapies, Gluten-free foods, etc. We just got approved for the higher amount. With the new monthly rate, it should cover 70% of his actual expenses.
