As Summer Is Approaching, What Activities Do You Have Planned For The Months Ahead?
One of the important things to do for your child with autism is to give them swimming lessons...often they have no fear of water! My daughter survived a river here in the Willamette Valley that takes many lives when she was 10 yrs old due to my insisting she have lessons very young...I wrote all about it in my book, Lonely Girl, Gracious God...she never failed to jump into water, no matter what size or where that water might be! Of course, she said the angels pulled her out, and I also believe that!! Hugs to all....Lauri
"High functioning" can mean different things to different people or groups, as GiftFromGod says above, so be sure and ask a million questions to find out if the camp will be a good place for your child...I will never get over the time I sent my daughter to a camp for typical kids, thinking it would be fine since it was a church camp...she was so different and no one knew how to relate to her, so she spent the 5 days swimming!! No one was joining her most of the time but she had no idea how to interact with the other children....so sad!!!
Im hoping to keep as much routine as possible with lots of fun and sun too. Joey will attend esy for 6 weeks as well as keep up with therapy, but I'm hoping some trips o the beach, lots of time in our backyard and a possible vacation at the end of the summer.
planning for disney land and beach. as i am moving from blytheville to houston. so after that i am going to execute my vacation plan.
Last year and hopefully this year as well, my autistic daughter and I will be volunteering for a musical called "Showboat". I am one of the tech directors and she is part of the sound and light crew and concessions! We also are Skywarn Spotters for the Duluth,Mn. Weather Service! It is a volunteer organization and we safe countless lives each year being the "eyes" of the weather service! Some also call us "Storm Chasers"! We went to a free class that is offered at the local county court house and we are taught how to safely report weather conditions that arise throughout the year! Very fun and rewarding and something that families can do together! :)
