Constipation
My son is six and still refuses to BM on the toilet. He has at daycare - but will not at home. I started to push this around 3 or 4 months ago - and then realized he wasn't going at all. He was avoiding it and had become constipated. We were going 5 or 6 days between BM's. I know that the bowels can stretch and it takes times for it to return to normal size. The dr. instructed us to start using daily suppositories to reduce the size of the bowels. Well - you can imagine how that is going… read more
Our pediatrician has us doing the same thing. We also give him a pediasure with extra fiber, he thinks of it as a treat.
Miralax works well for my daughter.
I give my son a small dose of miralax mixed into his milk several times a week to relieve constipation, as per his pediatricians instructions. Works great. You just have to find the correct dosage for you son...trial and error. I only fill the cap to the first line. My son is 55lbs.
Is there a specific reason the MD has you giving suppositories. Seem kind of invasive and traumatic for a boy who already has trouble have BMs at home. Did they mention a daily regimen of miralax to keep his stools soft and regular. Both of my kids hel stool during training. Miralax did the trick for constapation and not being able to withold. Dan to this day still only has 1 BM weekly, we tryo get him to be more regularbut this is his regular apparently.
My 13yo son had same problem 3 yrs ago, but we didn't really know. We now see a pedicatric gastro Dr, which makes a big difference. He would hold for days and we didn't understand why he was nauseous all the time. Dr has him on powder stool softner and exlax. We found a water flavoring product with many flavors, so now he drinks a lot of water. He eats a Fiber Plus bar daily. We push microwave steamer veggies and fruits. We no longer do several colon cleanses a month.
