Does Anyone Know Of A Dentist With Experience Dealing With Autistic Children In Houston?
My son is ASD PDD NOS and mostly non-verbal. The last dental trip was an absolute nightmare and really makes us not want to take him again. His teeth are fine with no cavities but I would like him to get used to going and have a dentist that we can trust. I am also worried that he has only lost 1 tooth and he is 6 years old. I check his mouth periodically to make sure he didn't swallow a loose tooth.
We took our sons to the Dental Clinic at TX Children's Hospital in the medical center. It was so much better than the regular Pediatric Dentist. They are used to kids who fight and she checked their mouths in about 1 minute each. One twin is going back for dental surgery under sedation.
I have 2 kids, 1 of which has ASD (MY 6 yr old). My husband and I have taken them both to Kids Healthy Teeth in Katy. They encourage us to bring the kids to the office just to walk through and play with some of the equipment to get them used to going to the dentist. They say they have quite of bit of patients with ASD and they were very nice and encouraging. They didn't rush us through the appointment and they allowed my kids to explore the office so they were comfortable. The techs knew to talk softly and not immediately touch my son after I told them he has ASD.
The website is www.KidsHeathlyTeeth.com. I hope it works out for you.

Thanks so much Alice! They are close to us. I will look into them. :)
Thanks for the referral Clue. I will look into them and check on locations. I love a dental office (or any physician) that have patience and understand our little ones. :)
