What To Do About Dealing With Paint Peeling?
Anyone have a paint peeler on their hands? We are running a Son-Rise program and he is peeling paint off the walls! Help! What to do. I read somewhere about wainscot? What is that? Some people panel the walls - that's expensive. What did YOU do?
Great ideas, I decided to join him in peeling the paint. This activity generated a ton of typical speech with eye contact and complete sentences. It's not lead paint and he doesn't put it in his mouth. I thought he would but he doesn't. He's doing this in a distraction free one to one enviornment so not having activities is not the issue. I think it was that he wants me to find the joy in the activity and once I learn to let go of my expectations of a perfect wall, he will stop. It's how he stopped doing alot of other things too. But, I did find chalboard paint that would make the lower half of the walls hard like a chalkboard. I don't think it is peelable. That is probably the cheapest answer. There is contact paper chalkboard which is expensive to do to an entire wall. Oftentimes, when I just let go of my reactions and let go of how I feel negatively about these things - they do resolve.
No, I'm not insulted at all, just thankful for all of your input! The paint we were using is Glidden and I think the room has a humidity problem because the pipes from the washer and bathroom upstairs run down beside the room behind one of the walls. So, when I touch up paint, it doesn't completely dry and he was peeling the next day so it wasn't curing properly. I put the dehumidifier in and then put one of his obsessions in the corner in front of where he was peeling - a Christmas tree so now he is more interested in that than he is peeling. So, until we can complete the chalkboard paint on the walls project that is the strategy! The paint is $40/gallon but only need less than 1 gallon. You are all amazing so don't ever be afraid to share your thoughts. I need all the input I can possibly get over here! Thanks again! :)
Lol..sorry..I just had a flash back of my son peeling paint off a wall at the YMCA reception area. So embarrassing +_+ I have not had this problem at home, but I wonder what the cost would be to attach something like plexi-glass over problem areas. Is there a toy or activity to keep busy hands occupied? How about a sticker/token earned for each day or hour without paint peeling? Good luck!
This is not lead paint we are talking about FYI! No, I wouldn't live in a house with small children that has lead paint! :)
