my son wasn't diagnosed until he was 13 years old. Until then, he was "quirky" but seemed pretty "normal". Once puberty hit, he became very symptomatic which prompted the testing. He because verbally and physically aggressive and violent towards me and himself. It got to the point where 911 was called and after 8 hours in the ER, he was transported to an inpatient facility. Worse night of my life but they did help him and he got significantly better. Now, after 6 months and a few growth spurts, he is starting to have outbursts again. I've heard that puberty does magnify the issues and i'm finding out through this site that this isn't uncommon. Unfortunately, with hormone changes and growth the meds probably need to be monitored more closely and changed more often.

I'm going thru this now my son is 15. Past couple of years frequent outbursts usually geared toward my husband. This isn't the kid I used to know. He was always quickly but never aggressive. It's scaring me. We are trying neurofeedback. I don't know what else to do!

I also wondering how it's changed. My son is 14 and has become violent toward me and himself has developed out of control obsessive behaviors (I have to redirect him every 90 seconds). I am having hard time dealing with this as I have NO time to myself I am redirecting him constantly and cleaning up after him. I am curious at those mentioning medicine. What medicines used what changes did you see and how did you wean off?

My son is 12 and I am going through the exact same thing...I see your post is from 10 months ago, has anything changed or have you learned how to deal with this better? My son is also considered non-verbal and we are having an extremly difficult time with him right now.

He is probably acting out in frustration because other people cant understand him. He does need therapy for speech, and his actions. It will not get better without help for him. It will only get worse. He needs help now.
