Who's The Best To Diagnose Autism (pediatric Neurologist, Psychologist, Pediatrician, Behavioral Specialist, Etc)? Who Diagnosed Your Child?
we had a full psychological evaluation done and too she knew within her first half hour with him and the rest of the test results just confirmed it all
We've been all over. Clinical psychologist (SID w/ ADD), psychiatrist (ODD) ....you name it, we've been there. The best evaluation we received, and the one I felt really took the whole picture into account came from our Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician. She really hit the nail on the head instead of the glancing blows we took from the others. She directed us to behavioral psychologists who specialized in the ASD and even suggested genetic testing (which I'm still mulling over). She's been great.
A developmental pediatrician and a Dr. of Psychology (PhD). Both at 3 years. But the person I will be forever grateful to is the Birth to Three case manager who gently suggested that i set up an appt w the Developmental Pediatrician when our son had just turned 2...at the time B to 3 was directed not to make any type of diagnosis, but she took a chance and I'm so glad she did---the first appointment I could get was 9 months away!
I think the Psychologist was the best one to diagnose because he was able to diagnose and outline an intervention program that we could take to the school district.
My son was diagnosed by a Pediatric Neurologist at the age of 6. The doctor was so good within 5 minutes of talking to my son, he looked up at me and said he is classic Asperger's. Since then my son was rediagnosed with just Autism so he can get help through the Regional Center.
Our son wasn't diagnosed until age 16, by a pediatric neurologist. This is despite seeing a specialist at Children's in Dallas at age three and many other therapists and doctors over the years.
