San Antonio, TX

My son is 6 years old and attends school M-F. Lately every morning it has been a challenge getting our son to get dressed. He has a meltdown and fights with us. He punches, kicks, screams, you name it. If we tell him to stop hitting he has even more of a meltdown. This has become an issue not because by the time he finally calms down and gets dressed we end up being late to school. We have tried having him pick his clothes. We have also tried having multiple options available to him when getting… read more

It is comforting to them to know it didn't change. Lots about the world does not make sense. So confirming that things didn't change helps.

He has frequent accidents at school, and the other children are making fun of him now. I'm looking for advice on potty training an autistic child effectively. It hurts to see him so sad. He doesn't understand why they pick on him.

Has Anyone Ever Used A Child Leash For An Autistic Child?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Orlando, FL

Hello Everyone, I am in need of some advice. I have an autistic non verbal son. When we are out in public he likes to snatch his hand from me and start running away. We were at church this past Sunday and he just got up and ran out an open door, down the side of the building and laughing as I'm trying to catch him. This is really concerning to me because I am afraid that one day he will run away from me and get hurt. I am desperate for some help. I have been doing some research and came… read more

Has Anyone Had Their Toddler Throw Toys While Playing?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
North York, ON

Like anytime Amari plays, espcially if its toys with balls or building with blocks, he doesnt actually play or build he just picks the item up and flings it to the floor..lol. Idk how to get him to actually play with things. When its a toy he actually likes he'll either just have it in hand, bite on it or observe it, push its buttons and then fling it down when hes done with it.. Why is this? Is he just young and eventually will learn to play and place things down properly?

A MyAutismTeam Member

Hands down yes! A lot of toddlers throw toys and they are neurotypical. Constant watching and stating, no throwing toys. It will stop, but takes work.
