How Do I Get A Referral From My Home School District's Department Of Special Education?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Pittsburgh, PA

My son attends a cyber charter and I was looking into possibly sending him to another school, but I need a referral from our home school district's department of special education. Because the cyber school is considered part of the public school system; would I contact the local board of education?

What Is The Difference Between A IEP And A IEP Summary?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Pittsburgh, PA

I had an IEP meeting the other day. I had received a form that was labeled as a IEP Summary. I have received in the past a IEP document that would list my son's accomplishments, academic and relative service goals that was set.

The summary included the relative services, and academic goals. The Academic goals were set as a yearly goal instead of a quarterly. The relative services were not invited to this meeting; even though I have asked prior to the meeting if they were aware of it.

@ crimsonwife it was suppose to be in reference to his ESY. It was like everything was rolled into one, because it covered his goals during the whole school year. This meeting last for thirty minutes.

As It Relates To Elementary School: How Often Would A Child Have To Be Reevaluated?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Pittsburgh, PA

I received communication that my son was due for an RR. (reevaluation) Which I guess would help with the I.E.P. process if new information needed to be added, so a plan could develop based on his needs.

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Australia

My 2 yr old girl is diagnosed with autism. She regressed at 18months of age. Her development pediatration recommended to go for early intensive ABA therapy for 30 hrs a week. When I asked her about Speech and OT .She said OT is not required for this kid and speech will come with ABA. She is non verbal but babbles a lot with some meaningless words. Will they really start speaking with ABA therapy?
I was thinking ABA is only for behaviour!!

Non-verbal Toddler Talking

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Phoenix, AZ

We currently have 2 speech therapists, physical therapy, a developmental specialist and ABA every weekday. Our 2 year old doesn't talk really at all (the occasional 'Mom'). I guess I'm looking for stories to give me hope. Did your non-verbal toddler ever catch up to their peers as far as speech goes?
