My Son Has Been Spitting His Drinks Out On His Shirt Lately? Anyone Else Relate And Is It Just For Attention Or Some Sort Of Sensory Seeking
Spitting drinks out on purpose
Hi Holly! In my son’s case, he wets his shirt when he has a slight irritation around the neck area. So, we constantly have to make sure his skin is not dry or have a reddish color. Eucerin lotion is what we are currently applying on his skin. Also, when he is getting agitated he would spit his water on the floor. When he does that we try to help him to calm down. When he was younger, he would “play” with his saliva. Currently,if he starts spitting on the floor we know he’s really upset or he’s begging for attention. He does that especially when he’s mad at me.
I hope you soon found out the cause of your son’s behavior. I hope you and your family have a blessed day!
Liam did this as well and he liked to play with his saliva. I am not sure why. He likes bubbles a lot then and figured out he could blow spit bubbles and that led to his playing with saliva. I redirected him and to him no. He did it quite a bit for 2 or 3 years and then outgrew it.
Hi Holly! For us, our son still does this from time to time. We noticed he does it when he gets overwhelmed with whatever he is watching on his tablet. Aziel hates saliva and holds it in his mouth instead of swallowing. We have to remind him to swallow. If not, he will let it leak out of his mouth. As for the drinks, and spitting them out, we take the cup away from him. Then we explain in a serious, yet calm, way that this is not how you drink juice. If he is overwhelmed from his tablet, we take his tablet and explain the same thing. It is definitely trial and error when it comes to spitting out. It has definitely calmed down tremendously in the past year. If our son throws a tantrum, that may or may not lead to meltdown, then we literally allow him to tantrum or meltdown. We then explain that it is okay to be mad or sad about the discipline. Feelings are always valid. Once he calms down, we explain to drink correctly or we will take the cup away again. Every child is definitely different but I sure hope this helps just a tad. Sending lots of love y'all's way!
Sometimes when my daughter is feeling froggy, she'll secretly and continuously spit her water in the same spot on the carpet
Hi Holly! My son just started doing this too! He says he’s a llama. It’s really gross,
