More Of A Thought Than A Question.

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

How much of our ASD loved one's behaviors/blow-ups are actually caused by OUR inflexability?

Example: Our son was late to school 3 out of 5 days a week. Now, my issue is that this effects everyone, not just him. Also, there was a daily battle at 7:10am to get him ready, and him telling us, he didn't want to go to school, he would rather play educational games on his tablet and watch educational show, that stop and change.

I got so fed up with the fights and especially of being late so often… read more

It really is a great thing you set the schedule. Mine is obsessed with wearing a red shirt/ sweater. I'm thinking about making a week chart with each day we wear "this color shirt" I got the idea from one of her shirts. It's the new Wednesday and it says " on Wednesdays we wear black". I'm thinking twice a week she can wear red other days will be other days maybe it will help.

What's with red? My son is hooked on it too! He will ONLY wear red shoes, and when he's having a rough morning, I'll break out a red shirt and its all easy street from there on.

My kiddo is obsessed with time, schedules and doing the right thing. I think it’s because he used PECS early on.

He wakes up 6:00 AM, eats his breakfast. 6:45 AM he gets dressed, brushes teeth. 7:00-7:10 he puts everything in his backpack, 7:35 AM we go outside to wait for the bus. If he notices that I am still at the breakfast table and I am looking at my phone, he tells me to finish my coffee, get my sweater, or he goes upstairs to wake up his brother, for example. This morning I was trying to find a song for him to listen to. I accidentally misspelled it. He said, “It’s wrong!”

I’m glad you find something that works for you and your son. 👍🏽
