Tricky topic. At the moment I’m a single mom because my husband is not suitable for parenting since their diagnosis, long story. One way to approach the topic with a willing, but maybe overwhelmed, parent is that just 20 minutes of one-on-one time when you just hang out and do what they do, just be in their world for 20 mins a day, not on your phone. Its much easier than trying to make the kid do something you like to do, and it creates better bonding frankly.
They are like their neurotypical peers in this regard. All children, regardless of special needs, NEED time with both parents. As with any relationship, it takes time together to nurture and strengthen the bond.
