To Discipline? What Is The Best Course Of Action?
Good Morning Team,
Problem: Alex is 8, deals with separation anxiety 5 days of the week when his dad isn't here (at work) and we have a routine for dealing. He is very verbal now, but when the meltdowns and tantrums (yes, I can tell the difference) happen he is thrashing around and has sometimes hurt me, he has broken stuff. It scares me. Discipline has a reverse affect and I don't know what to do! Help?
sometimes you just have to distract them. It's a lot easier said than done. We are going through those tantrums daily. It's very exhausting. We don't give him meds because doctor thinks he doesn't need them. So, what we try to do is find ways to distract him and do things to let him calm down. Like do things he loves to do. If he likes baking with you do some baking together or whatever you think he likes may help. My son is still 6 years old so maybe these may not work on yours but I do wish you the best and hope you can find a solution:)) All the best.
The only type of discipline my son ever responded to was brief time outs. Now he is too big and won't stay in time out. We have removed all the breakables or put them where they are inaccessible. Some people try meds or behavior therapy. Every kid and family is different. Sometimes redirectimg for like a walk or just allowing a quiet, safe space to have big feelings help. Liam finds an area with a bean bag chair or his book calming sometimes.
Help Ex Wont Give My Son His Meds.
