How Do You Advocate For Your Child?
We moved this past summer, and are closer to family. My son is also that much older, and doesnt “blend in” with other 3-5 year olds like he did before. I am realizing that this new age and stage is where I need to learn new skills as his advocate when we go back out into the world. For the veterans out there, what resources/books/groups/supports helped you when you got to a newer stage? I feel like I need a mentor or parent group that meets virtually.
Parent group - I actually had luck meeting a special needs parent in religious preschool. Also looks like there’s a Taca chapter in Michigan, you could contact them and see if they are doing virtual coffee talks and get the lay of the land from local parents. I got a lot of support from TACA there’s all sorts of parents in. I got really good IEP advice from a parent there, I took some of the vitamin advice but didn’t do most of it like ion cleanses, gluten free, etc. Don’t let that stuff scare you off, you can take or leave it. https://tacanow.org/local-chapters/midwest/mich...
