Hi, I Just Received An Email That My Sons Occupational Therapist Would Like To Use A Compression Vest On My Son During School Hours.
He’s 5 years old and attends full day ABA kindergarten. He has a weighted stuffed dog that we give him to hold if he gets anxious or sensory overload. I’m hoping to see if anyone can share with me if the weighted vest has been beneficial. I’m more concerned that they are wanting to keep it on majority of school day? Is that too long?
Instead of a compression vest, what we used for our son was Under Armor compression shirts. They are long sleeve and pretty tight, particularly if you get a bit smaller size then he wears. There may be other companies that make them but most are only in adult sizes because I think they consider them sporting goods. UA sells in small kids sizes. Very hard to tell a noticeable difference in behavior, although verbally he said that he liked having them on.
My son is verbal though speech delayed. He doesn’t really verbalize if things bother him. He overheats easily so I’ll be sure not to allow the weighted vest. He’s very smart and self directed. When he finishes his work. The teachers give him a weighted dog that he takes a brief walk to keep him occupied. Thanks for sharing your experiences
