Advice On Toilet Training

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Austin, TX

Any suggestions on potty training would be greatly appreciated,,my son is 13 autistic and nonverbal he tends to hold it all in until I put him in his pull up then he goes. He's gone a couple of times when i sit him on the toilet sometimes he'll go and other times he'll sit for at least 30min only to go in his pull up

My son was afraid of the noise from the flush. He would hold it until he peed his pants or he would hide in a corner and go. It took a long time to figure out that the sound was bothering him, he wouldn't go because he was afraid that we would flush right after. Try having him go, have him leave the room and then flush. See if that helps.
