Medications And Vitamins
Does anyone have an asd child that is on lamictal/ clonodine/ or guafesine (adhd) that has them on a probiotic? Trying to decide to start my son on a vitamin w probiotic but not sure if it would interfere?
I would advise you to talk to a pharmacist. They’d be the best one to talk to about what medications are ok with what. As for probiotics, I’m not a huge fan of them. I have IBS and have tried several through the years and they all generally make me feel weird. The problem with buying herbals from say Target or Walgreens is the FDA doesn’t regulate herbals so some things get snuck in them that shouldn’t. Like I researched the most popular probiotic in the nation and it has an ingredient in it they use in paint thinner. If you do want to go the probiotic route, chiropractors have much higher quality antibiotics and I didn’t react to them as badly as the over-the-counter ones you can buy anywhere. So just wanted to warn you, if your child does try one, it can disrupt the stomach more at first until the body adjusts.
I give my son a multivitamin that has everything instead of buying them separately which can be very costly. I also like to test them to see what minerals or vitamins they are missing This helps to take the guess work out of your child's nutritional needs..

My kiddo is on an ADHD medication vyvance but since he is into fruit snacks I get the gummy probiotic, omega 3 with DHA and calcium and multivitamin gummy and I give it to him like they are fruit snacks. This is only once a day. If he wants more he can get a package of fruit/veggie gummy snacks. He seems to do well digestive wise with the probiotics.
Clonidine at night for sleep saved our lives. But obviously talk to a child psychiatrist. Our sleep specialist told us low iron often interferes with good sleep so he’s taking Renzos iron w vitamin C twice daily. We also use Trazadone to keep him asleep. During the day he takes Hydroxyzine for stress/anxiety. The last doesn’t work much so we’re going back to his child psychiatrist to try a new med because he is off the wall hyper and most likely also has ADHD.
Hope you find something that works! Medication is always the last resort but we had no other option. But it’s a personal decision as a parent. :) hugs!
