My Daughter Has ASD And Her School Considers Her "gifted". Do You Know Of Effective IEP Accommodations For Gifted, Autistic Kids?
Sadly, the needed accommodations will vary based on your child's needs... My guy is also "gifted" but in order to work he needs silence when doing math, so the school allows him to go to another room to work. He also has headphones that sometimes work.
Another accommodation is sensory breaks... extra snacks to ensure he's not hungry and distracted... exercising on a tread mill to get rid of excess energy...
These are simply a few things that work for my child...depending on your child's needs it may be completely different. Work with your school's Autism Specialist or your child's personal therapists to determine what will make the day a success for your child. Good Luck!!!
I don't personally but see if the is an advocate in your area we used them when we were having problems getting the accomidations that were needed and they gave lots of tips and options even went to an iep meeting with us.
This is my son too. It is called twice exceptional or 2e. Check out this website, it has a lot of great information. http://www.hoagiesgifted.org/twice_exceptional.htm I have found that the gifted classes really don't challenge my son much more than the regular classes and it just increases his workload.
