My children are extremely sensitive to food textures (as am I for that matter.) Have you tried dried fruit? My daughter hates bananas but loves dried banana chips. Same for blueberries. My son won't eat strawberries sliced but loves them whole. Hugs.. it can be so difficult.

Hopie--have him checked out by a speech pathologist--I know it sounds strange, but they are trained in the mechanics of chewing ,swallowing, tongue movement, all the things associated with eating--and there are many. Make sure the speech path is a pediatric one . the pathologist might also recomment and Ear, Nose and throat guy. Good luck, and prayers.

My son still will do this at age 22. Some of our kids just have huge sensitivity to food. It's beyond being a picky eater, I think it's a eating disorder brought on by the sensory issues (smell, sight, texture).

I made some huge mistakes in this area when he was young where I tried to trick him by hiding new foods in other foods and had some big power struggles with him over it. It just caused him to mistrust me and believe me, you can't win the power struggles because they will just throw up on you.

Our ABA consultant recommended we just do food tasting programs with him. So we pick foods that are similar to ones that he already eats, then just have him touch it with his tongue briefly. If he shows no interest or dislike, we'll introduce it a couple more times and then just move on.

My son still does not have a normal diet. It worried me that he wasn't get the proper nutrition. So I went to a nautropath who did some tests and then recommended what vitamins and minerals he needed. And so I have confidence he is getting what he needs now.
