Florida Medicaid/ABA Services?
Hello everyone! My family is thinking of relocating from Nashville,TN to Pensacola, FL. I have two children with ASD who receive diability insurance. To my understanding once we move that will automatically change over to the Florida Medicaid. I just don't know what that is called to start being able to look things up. Also does anyone know what kind of coverage that insurance gives you? Up here in TN it covers his ABA, speech, and OT. Will it down there? Does it cover everything or do you have… read more
Hi @Hsander20. You will be starting from scratch when you move fyi. Everyone is different when it comes to the Medicaid. You will need to apply through the Agencies for Persons with Disabilities which is for the entire state. You need to contact the northwest region. Here's the link

Depending upon your children's needs, they have 1-7 tiers. One being immediate and 7 is being put on the wait list. The wait list is really long. I can't tell you too much about it b/c my son is HF/15 and he just got accepted to the wait list and I started the process in Oct. But APD should be able to help you out. Make sure you have ALL of your paperwork for your kids, I mean everything related to their disabilities b/c the more you have the more it helps. There are probably other agencies for other services, but b/c my son is HF, he doesn't qualify, I can't tell you more then what I know.
As far as the schools go, some are good, some not so much. You really need to be on top of things and advocate for your kids. You know what is best for them. I don't live in that area so I can't really tell you. Hopefully some parents who live in that area who are on here can help you out.
Hello! Anyone out there in Team FL. land that can give her more info.????? :)
Thank you so much for you information! It's a huge help!! Does it cover OT as well? I will definitely look into those places!
I live in Pensacola, Medicaid covers ABA and Speech, you have few options for places like Sacred Heart, BTEC, Capstone, and other schools
Thank you for that information! Escambia County is where we are mainly looking. I know up here availability of Sevices varies from county to county. Don't know how it works down there though. Hopeing someone from that county can help me out with that.
I lived in Cape Coral FL. The services at the school are the issue most times. They offer very little and the teachers are not as trained as you would like. Things might have changed but from what I heard they haven't.
