Classes For Parents
Does anyone know if there are any classes online for parents to learn about special education laws and their children's rights? I really would be intereSted if there is.
Check out G.E.A.R. online. I believe they recently announced a day long event teaching how to navigate the school system for special needs children.
Also, if you don't have one already, find a case manager (Paula Erikson out of Skowhegan's Kenebec Behavioral Health is excellent). A good one will help you force the school to give your child the services and accommodations they need.
We're on the Anson side of Industry. over the years we've met many families of kids with autism. Sounds like you may be feeling isolated and alone? That's also something your case manager should help you with - finding resources and support groups where you can find other people going through the same issues your family is going through. {{{hugs}}}
Google advocate for autistic children. We hired one and it changed our lives. They know all the rights and laws. It's wonderful. They will attend your iep meetings with you and it's a completely different experience.
