Tooth Brushing With Sensory Issues

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Keithville, LA

My five year old Grace can't brush her teeth because of her sensory issues. I can only brush them for a short time, but she cringes as if I'm running my nails down a black board. I know she isn't hurt by me brushing, it's just the brushing sensation. Does anyone have any tips so that I can make this a better experience for her? So that it's not so unpleasant? She wants to brush her teeth, and is excited to do so, but every day is hell for her doing so. I feel bad.

My son tolerates it but I've been thinking of trying the special dual sided brushes that get around both sides of the teeth at the same time. Speeds up and simplifies the process.

My son doesn't like the Fiebre toothbrush and I did was me and my husband used to hold him and to push his teeth. Now he does brush his teeth but he hate to brush his front teeth. My son been going to the densit and they could handle special needs. You need to find a butterfly tooth but you cannot find it in the store.
