Funding For ABA In NC????

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Hope Mills, NC

I'm trying to find out if there is any places / organizations that offer funds for ABA for families in North Carolina that have very low income and no insurance besides Medicaid. Medicaid doesn't cover ABA in nc.

BTW, it is my understanding that a federal judge has ruled that all states must cover ABA for children receiving medicaid. It may be a lengthy, time-consuming process to get it done and require a boat load of paperwork but I am great at reaearch and will work on step by stepping it for you! Read more about the ruling here http://www.governing.com/news/headlines/khn-med...

Legally, they have to. It has been ordered at a federal level and actual bulletins sent to states denying coverage. The major issue is the states that refuse to cover know medicaid patients have little rsources for attorneys. What they fail to realize if that there are advocacy groups that will help families nearly or completely free of charge. If you threaten to sue, that may be the end of it. I wouldn't make that threat to the local office or caseworker on the case. Go higher. contact the head of DCF in your state and your areas state senator or representative. Watch how quick attitudes on the local stage change once you take steps to do that. you might also consider contacting local press outlets to do an expose on why the state is so stringently refusing to follow a federal court order on this issue. While we all know why ($$$$) the state never likes to be exposed in denying services to its most vulnerable populations.
