My husband has a potential job opportunity in Indianapolis, Indiana. Is this a good state for an autism family?

In lived in Auburn and Muncie in the northeast side of the state. I found it cheap to live there compared to most places. I'm not a big city person but there are lot of smaller cities in the state to live in.

Also , Indiana is the smallest state to have 3 major regions. "Breadbasket", "Foundry" and "Dixie" so it's got more diversity than most states in that sense.

Check Sperling's Best Places for some good info on any place.

Pretty good choice from what I read. It was the first state to pass a mandatory insurance for autism treatment. I saw some documentary "Sounding the Alarm" on autism where the family moved to Indiana from North Carolina to get better services. My wife wishes we had moved to Indiana instead of Texas because the housing prices were far cheaper on average and they had ABA therapy even in the smaller cities. Here, there's one ABA place I'm aware of for a city with 110,000 people.

"Only California, Indiana, Massachusetts and Minnesota require the plans to cover the therapy without any limits on age, cost or frequency."

Ok, I'm biased born and raised a Hoosier but I lived in 5 states and two other countries so I've been around some places to get some perspective. Still thinking about moving there and Ohio, Illinois or Wisconsin. My wife hates cold weather and the economies of the Great Lakes aren't exactly booming.

I cannot say for sure if the state or city is a good fit for a child with autism. I'd call around to local schools there and ask what type of resources they offer children with autism as well as daycares (if you plan to use them). You can also contact the local autism agencies there to see what they say. A quick google search turned up with a few things you could look at though:
