Special Education Programs
I live in Gwinnett county, Ga which I have heard was one of the best counties for public special education. Can anyone tell me how to find information on which districts or schools have good special education programs? Please respond even if you do not live in GA. My daughter will be transitioning in January and I am very new to this so need any advice available. Thanks
Thank you all. We are currently getting early intervention services and we have the school evaluation in December as her 3rd birthday is in January. I did contact a local parents group who gave me more information into the the public special education program in my area as well as one of her instructors had a child that attended my district programs. All though I am not new to parenting I am new to this so just trying to learn all I can. Thanks again
I agree with the above poster. Your daughter will get her IEP started early and will have supports in place when she transitions into kindergarten.
See if they have a RECC program. In Maryland, they offer this through the county at a public elementary school. Your child would go to PREK free and the non ASD kids pay. This is where they will put ASD kids with peers who don't have ASD and it's a wonderful learning experience for all. My son is thriving at his RECC. They offer 4 and 5, 1/2 day programs. Are you currently participating in your counties "Early Intervention Services"? This is prior to 3 years old and the folks come to your home!
Great advice, thank you.
