Any Problems With Defiance On Everything

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Newport News, VA

My 11 year old daughter is refusing to do anything. She doesn't want to leave the house at all. She has been to school twice since the school year started. She also refuses to bathe and won't let anyone help her either. She has two ABA therapists that work with her but they haven't been successful either. I am starting to feel like I am failing or not doing something right. Does anybody have any suggestions? I love my baby and just want her to progress.

We went through a similar phase with my son (now 22). It's probably puberty kicking in, which is tough on all kids and even harder on our ASD kids. Does she have anxiety about baths or going places (which might explain the avoidance)? Is there something you could use as a reward for bathing/going places? The good news is that eventually all phases pass with time. Just don't blame yourself or feel like you're doing something wrong--you are doing the best you can. :)

She does have anxiety about those things. She will run away or at times get aggressive. Thanks for the info and reassurance that things will get better.
