Anybody Else Feel Like You Are Being Bullied By Their School District?
What I mean by my question, seems like my district is more interested in that I understand that litigation can be used if the situation doesn't work with my son's transition, and reminding me police can be called upon for behavioral issues. My son hasn't had any for over a year.very frustrated!
Please excuse my language but with the school district you must become I total bitch! I went the nice route in the beginning and got nowhere. I was bullied like crazy and my grandson suffered nightmares, bed wetting and extremely high anxiety. Now were in a different school and things are great! Funny how he stopped bed wetting, nightmares and anxiety level came down once the change to a new school and special Ed was made. Here in California we have an "Area 9" that assists families with special needs whom are having issues such as yours. Another parent I've met has hired an attorney which has helped her, but that's an expense I cannot afford. Law libraries and internet help with law research and your rights. Good luck to you and stay strong :)
I'm feeling bullied by my district as well, but in a different reason. Because my daughter scored high on her FCAT's going from 5th to 6th grade. 6th grade here in Hillsborough county Florida alot of the schools are middle school. Anyways, she scored above 70% so they have her in all mainstream classes. Mentally, emotionally, and socially she is not ready for it. She is very child like and can be convinced to do things. She will do anything for anyone for friendship. She is extremely influencal. They started her in a few mainstream classes last year against my better judgement. I have been fighting this tooth and nail
Even the iep counselor agrees she needs to be in the autism class. I would be happy if they only had her into two mainstream classes that she excels in. But I feel she will drown in all normal classes. It is to fast for her. Not everything is black and white. Give these special children to grow. There is a reason they are disabled. Yes they can achieve anything they put their mind to, but it needs to be done at there own pace and with the proper guidance. That's my bully story
When told the district could use a lawyer if we insisted he stay in the school, I said we can call a lawyer too. And reminded them it's their responsibility to make sure he is not bullied.
Yes, they are trying to intimidate you. Tell them in no uncertain terms that you know you and your child's rights and if they put one toe out of line, you will have them in court. Then start reading and make sure you know those rights! Www.wrightslaw.com is a good place to start. If he has an IEP, make them follow it by calling an IEP mtg every time they don't.
They are just trying to push you around from the sounds of it, and you have to push back. Inform them that if they try to expel your child or call the police that you will have a special Ed Lawyer on them right away. In fact threaten them with one before anything happens and tell them you are speaking with one now. Your child has rights and they have responsibilities that they are trying to get out of, find out your rights and make the district do what they are obligated to do.
