The third time we had a nurse come to the house and even with Valium and a numbing cream he was unable to have it done as he is very afraid of needles. The liquid Valium through the nose is much stronger and faster acting. My son also has no problem taking the pill by mouth but they knew it wouldn't have the effect they wanted. Susan, try using social stories and role play with him. You can even try getting some dummy needles and and play doctor and patient with him taking turns. Let me know how that works.
SusanLashHarris,
Dr.Susanna Y. Huh, MD Gastroenterology and Nutrition is who the Dr. who treated my son at Boston Children Hospital for his needle phobia. She administer the medicine "Versed" in liquid form to help calm him down so they can draw his blood.
@A MyAutismTeam Member, thanks I was curious of type of dr, but didn't want to keep bothering you. Thanks so much. Great doctors in Boston regarding autism. My son Oliver was diagnosed by dr. Margaret Bauman. And, have seen Dr. Tim Buie at several conferences. Really good , caring doctors for this population of kids.
Thanks again!
@A MyAutismTeam Member, thanks ! You have been tremendously helpful. More helpful than my pediatrician which is sad.
