Divorce And Custody

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Philadelphia, PA

I am going through a very tough divorce. I have a custody hearing coming up on the 30th. I want primary custody of the kids with my ex receiving visitation but no overnights. The reason is because he doesn't acknowledge that Anthony has autism and I feel he would be neglectful towards his needs. Has anyone dealt with this in the past...and if so what advice do you have?

I went through this as well and my ex was abusive. Thankfully I got sole legal custody of our son. He was in complete denial of our son needing extra help and I even tried to get the Drs to talk to him but he said no son of mine would ride the short bus. All I can say is have a good lawyer and fight fight and not give up as said above your child needs someone who cares for him who understands the need for extra help!

Keep your head up and fight for your child, he needs you as his voice.

I have been through a divorce recently. I don't believe my ex really believes or knows that our child has Autism. Is it harder on Men than Women to accept? I knew my child was Autistic since the age of 3, my ex never believed me.
