My 10 yr old daughter has always been very imaginative and creative. When she was little she had an imaginary friend, and she would dramatize scripts in her head, and often believe certain scenarios she made up were real. Her fixations are mermaids and fairies. Complex world-building is a sign of high intelligence. I wouldn't be too worried about this personally. You're right that she's working out who she is and that's a process that's varies greatly for individuals.
I would be very very careful not to give her the idea that you that you think she's doing it "wrong".
The body image stuff is what would concern me a lot more. I would discuss it privately with her doctor and see if they have any recommendations.
