She did give me the dosage and I cant find it now.. and yes to get him to sleep and keep him sleeping. He doesnt sleep so we started melatonin and it work for a few months and after upping his doses it just isnt effective anymore so she had suggested I try adding benedryl with it.

Is this to get him to sleep?

I had my son treated for many sleep disorders from Children's Hosp. in Denver and they recommended a micodose of melatonin of .33mg (four hours before bedtime and again 1/2 hour before bedtime.) They said they researched brands and found they vary in amounts from no actual melatonin to what was close to the label. I'm not soliciting for anyone, but they made us go through a specific company though, for regulation of melatonin, and we mail ordered through Life Extention which markets 300mcg capsules. I always saw melatonin sold at 1mg and 3mg. My son was 14 and 170lbs. so I was very surprised when our social worker said all her kiddos just took the "over the counter" stuff. We saw results with the mcg's and our son was diagnosed with 5 sleep disorders and the best recomendation I would say was to set a regular bedtime and a regular wake time and be consistent especially on the wake time, because your body makes melatonin when it is dark and sunlight stops melatonin production, so we had lights out an hour before bedtime and he cannot watch TV or play electronic games that stimulate and make light in the eyes. He was allowed a low light kindle for a light reading time but recommended not reading a book you can't put down and stimulates wakefulness. Since my son needs 11 hours of sleep, we had dinner at lights out time, often...so we got creative with candlelight dinner. We put a dimmer switch in his room too. He uses a light box on waking but it is because he doesn't get sunlight consistently and you can just turn on lights each wake-time. I would say you would probably do fine with cutting an over the counter 1mg, in half. Good luck.
